TobyMac and Sweet Surprises

Last week our best friends here in Virginia blessed us so very much. They had tickets to the Skillet/TobyMac show coming to the area, but were unable to attend. They had talked about it and decided they wanted to bless me and my husband with the tickets and send us on a date night. I could hardly believe it! Who does that anymore? We were so touched by their generosity.

I have been a huge TobyMac fan since '07 and have had the great pleasure of seeing him in concert before, (so I knew full well the fun we were in for!) but Skillet was a new one for me! My husband hadn't seen either, so he had no idea what to expect.

With the exception of getting hopelessly lost in downtown Roanoke, the night couldn't have been any more fun. We were so extremely lifted up and blessed, renewed and energized ~ and of course highly entertained! There is an incredible difference though, between being entertained and being uplifted. While any band could put on a good show, these two brought God into everything. Seeing these guys (and a few gals) up on stage singing their hearts out and dancing with all they had is just a wonderful reminder (and clear proof!) that Christians are NOT stuffy, high-nosed people who lack the ability to enjoy life. On the contrary... there was nothing but joy and life in Sunday night's show.

I warn you...I went a little overboard on the sharing of my pictures! Hope you enjoy it though!

Left: The hubs and I awaiting the shows to begin! When we arrived, we split up (we ladies always need a restroom break... true story). Finding him thereafter wasn't difficult, but for some reason surprising. Our friends told us they were floor seats, but I failed to realize they were in the pit! We were literally standing beside the catwalk. Can someone say awesome?

Right: Shon Lock. We're talking about amazing Christian rap/hip hop. I've never heard anyone pull it off like this guy! I could have taken a few more songs from him!

These guys have classical instruments laced into their rock. Did someone tell them that's my favorite thing? It was insanely loud in there, but the sound quality was so clear and strong. Two thumbs up from this girl!

As much as I enjoyed Skillet, I was so ready for TobyMac to perform after 90 minutes. I couldn't wait for my husband to experience his (and The Diverse City crew) energy level. The fun surprise was the opening song ~ The lead singer for Skillet ran out and sang along.

For your information, I didn't have to use the zoom on my camera. We really were that close to everyone. Oh, and yeah, I got to smack TobyMac's hand as he ran by. I'm not a starstruck kind of person, but I was pretty psyched when it happened! (Yes, I have washed my hand since then).

The energy was just amazing. It was the last show of the tour and they gave it their all. Even down to our Christmas present at the end ~ "snow." And you're seeing right, that is Charlie brown on the far left! We received the Christmas message from Linus! A nice touch, I must say! It was all amazing, that is all I can say. We were so blessed to be there that night.

(And might I add, the hubs was beyond impressed. Although he couldn't bring himself the say the actual words, the show was better than DC Talk back in the day ~ a confession I was so expecting at the show's end!)

FUN! I think I'd probably be stubborn right along with Strom, though ;) You can't deny the advances in technology that make a concert so much better nowadays, but c'mon, the DCTalk drummer and his set turning upside down in full circle?? That makes for some good memories right there. Especially when crazy technical moves like that were not a common occurrence like they are now ;)
