Freedom Isn't Free

While scores of people across the nation set out their lawn chairs and fire up the grill for their Memorial Day picnics and barbecues, my hope is that the real meaning behind this day is not lost on America. This day has little to do with a day off from work, and everything to do with honoring our military and the sacrifices they have made on our behalf.

Maybe this day means more to me because I am the wife of a US Soldier, but I like to believe that it is because I have refused to become familiar with what their sacrifice has meant. It's easy to stay disconnected, and quite honestly it's often painful to keep it real. But we owe it to the men and women who have given so much, if not all, for this nation to uphold their honor, to remember them and to know how different this country would be if it weren't for their willingness to lay it all down.

May we never forget what their sacrifice has meant... and may we thank God such men and women lived.
