The Good the Bad & the Pretty

Well hello there, blog world! Long time no blog! My life seriously needs to take a memo and get more interesting. Until then, I'll attempt being cool.

This past week has been a bit out of the ordinary, but it has been enjoyable for the most part! We have had my wonderful aunt staying with us since Sunday. She has always been like a second mom to me, so it has been great spending time with her. Not so fun aspects might be the seemingly endless amount studying for finals my hubby has been doing. I do not miss being in school whatsoever! So to all my friends who are in school and busting their butts prepping for finals, finish strong!! :)

This Weeks' Good:
  • Having my aunt stay with us. It's a joy to have family around! Lord knows it gets lonely here in VA on our own.
  • Starbucks' Frappuccino Happy Hour. Um, yum! Half price fraps? Yes please! If they weren't so chalk-full of calories, I would order my raspberry mocha frappuccino every day.
  • Friends. We have made some amazing friends here in the last 9 months. It will be so hard to watch them commission into the Army and start their new lives, but we are so blessed to have been given the opportunity to get to know them! Being a part of this military family has its challenges, but in some respects, the benefits (friends) far outweigh the hard times.
  • Sales. Living on a budget can often become a drag, but when you have the chance to stretch the dollar and get the biggest bang for your buck, it's so exciting. NY&Co has some mad sales and promos going on right now ~ I made it out with $70 worth of merchandise for a mere $20. Yes, this was a highlight of my week! I'm such a girl.
  •
Yeah, unfortunately there is always The Bad:
    • Gas prices. I swear they go up a dime a day. Our breaking point is pennies away at $4. What is your breaking point?
    • The realization that we are mere weeks away to saying goodbye to all the awesome friends we have made.
    • Car problems. It's a crushing feeling to pay a tab of $700+ at the local mechanic. Although it's less than the cost of an actual car, it's rough putting that much money into an old car! Gr. Seriously, gr.
    • Not being with my precious mom on Mother's Day tomorrow. I have never missed a Mother's Day ~ I hate not being able to give her a hug and make her feel like a queen!

And lastly, the Pretty! Every post is better with a picture. My aunt made my day when she brought these home for me:

Happy Mother's Day to all you amazing mothers out there!

      those are beautiful!
-I can so relate to not having family and it being a total Godsend when anyone is able to visit. Yay for you!
-and a hearty "amen!" to Starbucks' happy hour! I got that in my email the other day, and have been just waiting for a spare moment to get there.
-I'm aaaaall about the sales, and refashioning or upcycling, and just plain making things! I just made some beautiful cloth napkins and a table runner out of vintage pillowcases I got at the thrift store (they were thoroughly cleaned and bleached!). Being on a budget doesn't seem to have limited me, but actually opened my eyes to so many other options!!!
-our gas is $4.21 (although I think Costco is 4.19 or 20, but other places are 4.23) insane, right?!?!?

-Seriously, you are soo crafty. I wish I had the skills! I'm horrible at all things handy! (Remember my post about the bookshelf?!) Our friends here may be PCSing to Anchorage in the next 6 months, and if they do, you guys need to meet! You're both all about making everything yourself and finding the deals etc. You'd love her. :)
-Good grief, $4.21? How depressing!! we're close behind you, though prices have seemed to dip this week. I am waiting for a major spike.
-Make sure you get to Starbucks! Nothing like a frap for 2!! :)
