Destination Signs

If you walked into my house, you would notice something right away: The walls are lonely. But it's okay! They are loved. They are just bare. I'm a firm believer in decorating with only the things that you *love*. And I'm waiting until I find things that steal my attention.

The first thing that sparked my interest were vintage subway signs. Perhaps I'm semi-oblivious, but the first time I truly noticed this trend was in one of my favorite design blogs, http://www.brooklynlimestone.com, in this post. Unfortunately the more I looked, the higher the cost became {we're talking $1600 for a vintage scroll! Yeah, I like them, but geez, that's groceries for a few months!}. So then a little light bulb appeared over my head when I thought...reproductions. Nice. Unfortunately, those were expensive too. Much more affordable...I even seriously considered putting some birthday money toward one of these but as a newlywed, the price was still a bit too steep. When you've purchased a bed, bedroom, living room and kitchen furniture, a whole fridge of food, and stocked a laundry room, every extra penny is just a wee bit painful. Am I right?

So when I stumbled into Etsy one day for kicks, I was pumped to find an affordable ~ yet still classy and artistic ~ way to get my hands on those destination signs! Although there are a few vendors on Etsy that can custom make these prints, I worked with Jenwoodhouse and was completely impressed with her professionalism and quick response {she was 9 months pregnant and about to give birth any day when I first contacted her, and she still got my order processed and shipped in less than a week!}.

{I must add that although I write about my former New England status, I spent 13 years of my life prior to Maine living in New York. New York City is my city! My handsome husband, on the other hand, was born and raised on the complete opposite side of the country in Washington State and claims Seattle as his own. And while we were doing our 3 years of long distance, our favorite place to visit together was Boston. Every destination on each sign has personal significance and I enjoy recalling the memories from each place when I look at the prints!}

{And a close up of each}
