Amish Country

In a day in age where nearly everyone and their mother is glued to a phone, iPod, computer, or large screen TV, the Amish faithfully remain detached from our materialistic world. There is something about the Amish culture that I have always loved. Perhaps it is their strong family loyalty, but ultimately I think it is their simplistic way of life. Now, I'm not saying I'm ready to chuck my beloved laptop or DVR out the window, but I wish our society would unplug a little more often.

My entire immediate family and I just trekked up to Maine from Lancaster County, PA ~ and it was a beautiful escape from all things traffic and Chaos. Whenever I'm there I think how easy it would be to live in such a place. The sight of a dozen Amish boys with hockey sticks on a frozen pond is something I don't think I could ever grow tired of! And then I recall the 7 years I spent in Maine and I decide I'm fine with being in the civilized world. But let me tell you, Amish Country is just beautiful. Spring, summer, winter, fall ~ it's always incredible.

Need I say more? It's amazing to be home with my family!! I'm absolutely loving every second of it.

oh man, I would LOVE to go visit there someday! There was a period of my life where I was obsessed with the Amish after I saw some "real-life" ones at that THORP fruit stand driving from Seattle on my way to Eastern WA. They had the horse buggy and all. I had never known they still existed! haha.
Beautiful scenery. What a simple way of life. I wouldn't mind living like that a couple months out of every year...

Amish Country isn't that far from us! If you ever came to visit.... ;) I'm with you on living like that for a few months a year! It's so refreshing. Except I'd have to have my cellphone and flat iron... I'm that girl.
