"After a nuclear disaster caused by several terrorist attacks that destroyed 23 American cites, residents of a small Kansas town must come to terms with a new and very different reality as they wonder if they are the only ones left alive."
With a show synopsis like that, how could you pass it up?? So, Jericho isn't exactly a "new" find, but it was new to me. It originally aired back on CBS in 2006, and although it had quite a fan base, its ratings weren't high enough to bring it back for a second season. But because the fans were so awesome, their strong demands brought back half of a second season in 2008 to close out the series.
Initially, I wasn't all that interested in watching Jericho. Friends of ours told me I needed to see it (Strom had already watched it in Afghanistan), so Strom took the reigns one day and popped the first season in the DVD player. Reluctantly, I stayed on my laptop trying to act all disinterested. By the 20-minute mark, the laptop was cast aside and my eyes were glued to the screen. That's all it took, 20 minutes. And season 1 was completed by the end of that weekend. Yeah, I just admitted that.
It is an amazing show. If you have ANY interest in current events (or even none at all ~ my sister-in-law dislikes such topics and she is wildly hooked on this show this very moment!) you will be sucked in to Jericho. Nuclear attacks, survival instincts, EMPs, military, conspiracy theories (or are they?), revolution, relationships, romance, characters with character! Leadership, integrity, family values, and sheer determination to survive - Jericho has it all. Every single episode is a cliff hanger and the [sometimes cheesy] music prepares you for it! The end of each episode leaves you saying, "Okay... Just one more." And two more later you're looking at the clock saying, "Oh my gosh, I need to get to bed!"
If you are familiar with what is going on behind the scenes in the real world right now in regard to nuclear threats and revolution, you will realize how plausible the storyline is. Strom will attest to my jaw dropping every so often when certain events would occur. Yeah, some of it is dramatized of course, but the way everything unfolds is almost eerily uncanny...
I know you want to check it out now - since my excitement has you all fired up (ha!). Seriously though, give it a try and see if you don't fall in love with it!
