Grand gestures are wonderful. What woman does not like getting swept off her feet in one way or another? But it is the little things in life that leave a longer lasting grin...
Like the time he returned from his year-long deployment a month early [due to receiving his Green to Gold scholarship]. It was 2 weeks before our wedding [by the time he left his post, set up shop in Virginia and came up to Maine to claim his bride] and he walked off the plane in his ACU's. Why? He knew I had waited a year to be at his redeployment ceremony and now that he wouldn't have one, he wanted me to have "the moment" of seeing him post-deployment. It's the little things.
Or the time I was missing the New England fall more than I could even explain to him and he came home from school with a beautiful arrangement of fall flowers - and even put them in a vase on display for me to come home to. It's the little things.
I even had a meltdown once (over spilled coffee of all things... I hate to confess) and rather than trying to figure out why on earth his new wife was such a mess, he picked up my head (which yes, was on the floor in a heap of tears) and placed it in his lap and just stroked my hair until the tears ceased. It's the little things.
And today when I opened my fridge for some water...
I say once again... It's the little things. :)
